The New English Illustrated

Continuing in the present membership’s commitment to promote the principles of the New English Art Club this year’s annual Open Exhibition was accompanied by the publication of ‘The New English, Illustrated’ a 76 page fully illustrated volume demonstrating the variety and quality of the club’s present work and a look back via work of deceased members owned by present members.  It proved extremely popular at the exhibition and we are happy to offer it for sale here.

A New Era for the Club

At this year’s annual general meeting following the close of another very successful open exhibition, the membership elected three new members:

  • Anthony Williams
  • Peter Kelly
  • Melissa Scott-Millar
  • Charlotte Sorapure
We welcome them aboard and look forward to their future participation to further enrich the club.

With the exhibition housed in the now refurbished Mall Galleries the 470 works exhibited were of the highest standard.  Guided tours proved popular as ever with three given by the president Tom Coates, past president Ken Howard and member Saliann Putman on 3rd December Charles Williams hosted a talk on drawing which was attended by over 100 people and proved a very entertaining and interesting debate lasting over one and a half hours. The panel consisted of Arthur Neale, Karn Holly, William Packer and surprise guest Andrew Wilton, the world’s leading expert on Turner.  Thank you to all those who attended and took part.

Later in the exhibition, after last year’s success a member’s party was held which was great fun.

NEAC Exhibitions 2007

2007 was a full calendar for the club’s exhibition programme.  The first exhibition was held at ‘Great Barn’, Devon with percentage of sales in raising £10,000 for the Alzheimers Society.  In June The Summer exhibition was held at Bankside Gallery, London.  In July and August Hereford City Museum and Art Gallery hosted an extensive exhibition of the club brilliantly curated by our dear friend and companion of the club John White and celebrating the work of esteemed member John Ward both of whom passed away this year. The year was finished off in the ever popular NEAC Annual Open Exhibition at the Mall Galleries, London.  With its ongoing online exhibition this all resulted in annual sales of over £230 thousand.
